Description

Built circa 1830, this historic Alexandria plaqued home at 802 Duke Street represents quintessential Old Town life and architecture. The detached 2 story, 3 bedroom, 3 full/1 half bathroom house in the heart of Old Town is a beautiful example of the convenience and culture of living in Old Town, coupled with the space and amenities for today’s lifestyle.

Entering through the historic home’s vestibule, you are greeted by a gracious and welcoming foyer. Just beyond, the natural flow brings you first to a generous living room with wood burning fireplace and custom built-ins. The adjoining formal dining room features a crystal chandelier, windows on two walls, and offers ample room for entertaining. A large rear addition incorporates the home’s spacious, bright, and updated kitchen with a center island, granite counters, stainless steel appliances, and a gas cooktop. The bright family room just off the kitchen features high ceilings, a gas fireplace, custom built-ins, and a wall of windows overlooking the back garden.

Doors from the family room lead to the home’s private brick-walled garden, a beautiful retreat for grilling, relaxing, and al fresco dining. This gracefully landscaped yard—a gardener’s paradise complete with a classic fountain and brick lined path—is home to many plantings including a mature magnolia tree, boxwoods, and more. One off street parking space is located just beyond the courtyard’s charming iron gate.

On the second floor you’ll find the home’s three bedrooms and three full baths, including the light-filled master suite with soaring windows, vaulted ceiling, and spacious closets. The master suite also features a large bathroom with two vanities, whirlpool tub, separate shower, and private powder room. This level is also home to a large, sunny bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, the third bedroom with built ins, the third full bathroom, and the washer and dryer.

The home's central Old Town locality is just two blocks to King Street’s shopping and dining district, as well as convenient to Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Trader Joes, Balducci’s, Starbucks, and farmers' markets. The location is a commuter’s dream: walking distance to King Street Metro, and easy access to I-95/495, Route 1, and the GW Parkway.

King Street Metro

The King Street Metro community is located at the bottom of Shooter’s Hill, between the Braddock Road Metro station and the Eisenhower Avenue Station. Until 1991, when the Blue Line was expanded to Van Dorn Street, only the Yellow Line served the community. Today, the King Street Metro community is accessible on both the Blue and Yellow Lines.

Quality of Life:

The King Street Metro community is predominantly composed of commercial office buildings and several mid to high-rise apartment complexes. There are older townhouses along Harvard and Peyton Streets, and a mix of old and new townhouses on West and Prince Streets.

King Street Metro means convenience. Without saying too much, residents in the King Street Metro community have unprecedented access to metro rail. King Street is seconds away, as well as its numerous restaurants. Take a walk down towards the heart of Old Town for a visit to The Old Town Theatre or The Lyceum. Stop by the Butcher’s Block for fresh meats and The Fromagerie for cheese. Whole Foods is right around the corner.

Getting Around:

Forgive us for repeating ourselves. From the King Street Metro community one can easily find their way to the King Street Metro station. The streets of Old Town are easily navigable by car. I-495 is less than five minutes away. Head north on the G.W. Parkway for a ten-minute drive to D.C. Two Metro stops to Reagan National Airport.

Airports:

Ronald Reagan National Airport:  < 6 miles.
Washington-Dulles International Airport:  < 30 miles.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport:  < 45 miles.
